This page summarizes precautions before using Sulfur boards.
Board Information
Board features and various reference designs are described in the following pages.
How to check the serial number
The serial number of the board can be found in the red box below.
-
SDM OSC Clock Support
- A5SOM1E024D0001-A5SOM1E024D0025: 125MHz
- For serial numbers other than the above: 25MHz
Limitations for Agilex 5 ES devices
Item | Notes | Serial Number |
USB 3.1 / 2.0 | USB 3.1 is not supported on Agilex 5 FPGA & SoC E-Serise ES devices. Therefore, all USB ports work with USB2.0. | Therefore, all USB ports work with USB2.0. |
HPS EMIF read throughput did not reach target |
HPS EMIF Read Throughput Misses Target <td">This is a known issue with Agilex 5 ES silicon, there is a problem with the data path between the CCU and MPFE, which is significantly reducing the read bandwidth to the HPS EMIF. Until this issue is resolved, customers should expect HPS performance to be limited. Please see the errata below. |

Feature Limitations
Item | Notes | Serial Number |
HDMI 2.0 |
Currently no Altera IP supporting HDMI 2.0 has been released. If you wish to evaluate this feature, you must use a third party IP. -> Supported since Quartus Prime Pro 24.3 |
All |
CoaXPress 2.0 |
Currently, the Altera IP required for CXP rate control has not been released, limiting the maximum communication rate that can be evaluated to 3 Gbps. |
All |
CameraLink |
CAM_LINK1_X0_P signals are shared with RZQ and pulled down at 240 ohms on the SoM. Therefore, the resistor must be removed when using the Camera Link #1 port. However, if you modify the product, such as removing the resistor, it is not covered by the product warranty, so please contact us if you need to do so. |

Product Usage Precautions
Item | Notes |
Attaching and Removing Heat Sinks | The heatsink is attached to the FPGA on the SoM with a thermal bonding sheet, and forcible removal of the heatsink may cause damage or failure of the board. |
Attaching and Removing the SOM | The BtoB connector that connects the SoM is a very precise component. Applying excessive force may damage the connector, so please be very careful when attaching or detaching the SoM. Also, inserting the connector at an angle may cause poor contact, so please insert the connector vertically so that force is applied evenly to the connector. |
Limitations on PCIe Slot Installation
This product is equipped with a PCIe card edge and can be embedded in a PC for evaluation. Since the external dimensions of this product do not conform to the PCIe form factor, please use a PC and chassis that meet the following restrictions
About Installation in PCIe Slots
Both the front and rear sides exceed the size of a single PCIe slot, so please allow at least two slots on the front and at least one slot on the back.
About PC Chassis Back Panels
If there is a slit on the back panel, this product's two-stage LAN connector will interfere with it.
